#SSSA2020 Cancellation Notice

Due to the COVID-19 disease outbreak, the Southwestern Social Science Association (SSSA) is canceling its 2020 Annual Meeting and postponing our centennial celebration until the 2021 Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for April 15-17, 2021 at The Monteleone in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Accordingly, for 2021, we will keep the 2020 theme “100 Years and Counting … Breaking Boundaries in a New Century.”

Submissions

All paper and panel proposals for the Austin 2020 meeting are being forwarded to the New Orleans 2021 meeting.  If you would like to withdraw your submission from consideration for the 2021 meeting in New Orleans, login to your All Academic account where you submitted your proposal, select add or edit and delete the submission.  We also welcome new submissions.  Hopefully, we will be able to develop some special sessions concerning the COVID-19 pandemic as well as Black Lives Matter.  Such sessions would fit well into the 100th theme as there were similar concerns 100 years ago with the flu pandemic that began in 1918 as well as with the rights of racial and ethnic minorities.  An updated Call for Proposals will be issued soon.

Hotel Arrangements

If you have already made a reservation in the SSSA room block at the hotel for the 2020 conference, this reservation will be canceled by the hotel in the near future.  Otherwise, please contact the hotel or other accommodation where you made a reservation to cancel it as soon as possible.

Travel Arrangements

Likewise, if you have already made travel arrangements, please contact your travel provider to cancel them as soon as possible.

Leadership and Updates

Our current SSSA executive committee will continue in office through the 2021 Annual Meeting. An updated Frequently Asked Questions page is now posted to the SSSA website.  This page will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.

This is the first time that the SSSA has canceled the Annual Meeting since the 1943, 1944 and 1945 meetings were canceled due to World War II.

Please stay safe.  We look forward to seeing you next year in New Orleans.
