Sweet Briar College sociology student Courtney Nelson recently attended our 2018 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.  She presented results from research she conducted in a summer program at Texas A&M University on education and labor outcomes for Americans who immigrated from western Africa in this decade.  She authored a blog article on her research experience and her presentation at the Annual Meeting, in which she encouraged her fellow students to undertake similar experiences.  As she noted in her article, many institutions have funding programs for students to undertake and later present research as she did.

The Southwestern Social Science Association’s Annual Meeting has long served as a welcoming forum for undergraduate and graduate students alike.  Among other events, the Annual Meeting now hosts a breakfast for graduate students, job placement services, a graduate school fair, and poster and panel sessions where students can present their work.
