It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Gibson Nene, the president of the Southwestern Economics Association.
Dr. Nene was Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. He received his B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Sciences and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was an active and dedicated member of the Southwestern Social Science Association through our Economics affiliate. He was the student paper coordinator for Economics for the 2024 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, served as the Economics program chair for the 2025 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, and he assumed the Economics affiliate presidency at the conclusion of Las Vegas meeting.
