The Southwestern Social Science Association’s Council has voted to authorize that the change-of-name motion tabled at the San Diego Annual Meeting be brought off the table and to a vote at the San Antonio Annual Meeting.
If approved, this motion would change the association’s name to the Social Science Society of America. The new name would retain the SSSA acronym. This change was proposed several years ago, in part, due to some universities revising their conference funding schemes to allow funding only for national conferences over regional meetings.
The vote will occur during the Business Meeting at the San Antonio 2022 Annual Meeting.
Members will be offered opportunities to discuss this proposed change-of-name in the time leading up to the vote. We will post further information on these opportunities and on the motion itself our our website and our social media channels as that information becomes available.
