Affiliate(s): Anthropology, Economics, International Studies, Southwestern Historical Association, Southwestern Political Science Association, Southwestern Social Science Association, Southwestern Social Work Association, Southwestern Sociology Association, Women's and Gender StudiesThe Southwestern Social Science Association WILL be meeting in New Orleans at the Hotel Monteleone, April 15-17, 2021. To accommodate those who cannot or prefer not to travel but want to participate in the 100th annual conference, we are ALSO offering virtual sessions. It is the best of both worlds!
We urge you to consider submitting your proposal now to participate in the upcoming meeting. Once the NEW deadline of February 15 has passed we will quickly review the proposals and contact you to determine your preference. Be sure to check our Twitter and Facebook feeds, and the SSSA website, for updates.
Importantly, while New Orleans is open for business and the hotel is operating and hosting conferences, we will be scaling back both the room block and the on-site activities to meet guidelines that are in place to ensure we meet as safely as possible. The meeting will not look like it traditionally has but we intend to offer participants a professional experience to enhance your networking and scholarly endeavors regardless of where you choose to be.
The hotel has many protocols in place to keep their guests safe. We will be working with them further to implement strategies that specifically consider our mission and goals while on site. Rest assured the hotel and SSSA Leadership are working diligently to provide the best and safest experience in New Orleans as possible.
For those wondering, critical activities of the association such as the plenary address and business meeting will be accessible virtually for all SSSA members regardless of location. Virtual sessions will be accessible to all participants. There will be a limited number of sessions on site that will be accessible only to those on site. Because we know that it is one of the most important aspects of any conference, we are working to identify ways to enable networking virtually.
If you have already submitted a proposal we will be in touch to determine your participation preference in the coming days and weeks.
Visit this link to submit a new proposal. Information on hotel costs and reservations and registration fees will be forthcoming.
