Annual Meeting

The 88th Southwestern Social Science Association Annual Meeting:
Las Vegas, Nevada
March 12-15, 2008
Riveria Hotel, Casino, and Convention Center

Make plans now to join a thousand of your colleagues from around the United States and the world in four days of research, workshops, roundtables, and social events. Each of our seven affiliates arranges its own distinctive set of events, and the association as a whole also hosts meta-events with participants from each affiliate.

Call for Proposals
General Program Chair Tracy Dietz (Sociology, University of Central Florida) has issued a Call for Proposals, with paper and panel proposal submission contacts for each SSSA affiliate (Economics, History, International Studies, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, and Women’s & Gender Studies).

Hotels & Travel
Our 2008 convention will be located at the Las Vegas Riveria Hotel, Casino, and Convention Center. Your site selection committee has negotiated very reasonable room rates at this hotel, beginning at $125 per night. The hotel's rooms have all be recently renovated, and the convention space we will be using is outstanding and convenient. Located on the famous Las Vegas Strip, the Riviera is a short ride from McCarran International Airport (LAS).

Important Hotel Update!

The Riviera Hotel is now sold out on March 11, 12, and 13, and our room block is sold out March 11-14.

For rooms on March 14 and 15, please contact the Riviera. Although our room block is sold out on 3/14, at last report there are still rooms in the hotel available at a discount, though not at the conference rate.

For rooms on March 11-14, please call 'A Room With A View' for information on a designated SSSA overflow hotel. They will secure the lowest rates within a short distance of the Riviera Hotel. A Room with A View can be contacted at 1-800-780-4343. This is a FREE SERVICE for all SSSA attendees, though you are not required to use it.

About the 'Staying at the Riviera' Conference Registration Rate:

Attendees who stay in the Riviera qualify for the 'Staying at the Riviera' conference registration rate.
Attendees who split their hotel stays between the Riviera and any other location (on nights the Riviera is sold out) qualify for the 'Staying at the Riviera' registration rate.
Attendees who stay in other hotels on nights SSSA's Riviera room block is sold out qualify for the 'Staying at the Riviera' registration rate.

IF SSSA meets its full room block commitment to the Riviera, AND the rooms reserved for SSSA attendees are actually sold on March 11-14 to SSSA attendees (that is, SSSA attendees actually stay in the Riviera's SSSA room block), rebates of the 'Not Staying in the Riviera' surcharge will be issued. Rebates will be issued after the convention, upon request, either by a credit to the credit card charged or by check, at the discretion of the Convention Director.

Conference Registration
Convention pre-registration will begin November 1, 2007. You will be able to pre-register by mail or online. SSSA’s convention registration fees continue to be lower than most national or regional conferences, making our conference one of the most reasonable to attend in the nation. The Riviera has also provided us with generous incentives for early conference registration.

Exhibitors
Our convention attracts an average of 1,000 attendees from a variety of social science disciplines, making the SSSA Annual Meeting an excellent opportunity for you to reach college professors, graduate students, social workers, and other social science professionals. Most major universities from Texas, Oklahoma, and other southwestern states are well-represented among our attendees, as are many liberal arts and junior colleges. Our exhibitor rates are reasonable, and we currently have openings for display areas to be set up in our centrally-located 5,400 square foot exhibit hall.
